The Role

The Communications Partner, Crypto role at Andreessen Horowitz will advise our early stage portfolio companies on their communications needs, manage and amplify the efforts of the crypto team, and market crypto more broadly. This is a rare opportunity for a motivated communications professional to drive meaningful change in a rapidly evolving tech sector at a top venture capital firm.

We’re pro-future and pro-technology, and we’re seeking a highly competent and nimble strategist and doer who is passionate about the opportunity for new technology to continue to drive innovation and positive change in the world. This role will ideally be located in either our San Francisco or New York offices.

To join our team, you should be excited to:

• Partner with our larger crypto team (investment, legal/policy, engineering, research and more) to build and execute on communications plans that attract crypto founders and help market crypto more broadly
• Be a trusted advisor for dozens of portfolio companies and their founders - you will be the specialist they turn to for their company launch and positioning, media strategy, issues management, internal communications, and on how to use their voices to grow their brands
• Build strong industry and media networks that you can put to work for our portfolio companies and the firm, including identifying and vetting appropriate agencies and consultants that we can recommend to our portfolio
• Work closely with the crypto research and engineering team to amplify and translate their work for the broader industry
• Work with crypto general partners on executive communications to elevate their profile through press, speaking, and social media
• Collaborate with our events and editorial/content teams on broader marketing initiatives
• Create and update resources such as press and influencer lists and messaging documents to facilitate effective outbound communications
• Learn new skills and adapt quickly to stay ahead of the quickly-changing trends and needs for founders and startups in the web3 space

Minimum Qualifications

• 7+ years experience in communications with expertise in media relations, executive communications, crisis communications and crafting communications plans that incorporate press, social, written content, video, and events
• Experience working in or strong interest in immersing yourself in crypto
• Strong partnership skills: we are connectors at our core and find joy in building trusted connections within the firm, with our portfolio, and with the industries in which we operate
• Lifelong learner: we are techno-optimists who dig in deep on big new ideas and work hard to demystify complex subject matter to audiences through press, speaking and content
• Self-starter with strong ability to build from 0-1, context-shift, learn, and drive meaningful results
• High EQ: able to persuade, influence, and build trust at the executive level
• Respect for the entrepreneurial struggle and eagerness to coach, counsel, and support entrepreneurs of all stages with both compassion and expertise
• Low ego, high empathy, and the capacity to collaborate effectively with diverse teams
• The ability to attend quarterly offsites and travel as needed

The anticipated salary range for this role is between $264,000 - $308,000, actual starting pay may vary based on a range of factors which can include experience, skills, and scope.

This role is eligible to participate in the a16z carry program and various discretionary bonus programs as well as benefit and perquisite plans including health, dental, vision, disability, life insurance, 401K plan, vacation, and sick leave.
